Home Brew Bi-Color Filament!

This style of 3D printing is not new, but many of the creators releasing the models are crab people. I fixed that.

Hi all! I'm Joshua, and I'm a serial complainer.

Today's complaint: Usage Rights.

This form of 3D printing is not new, I was inspired by it years ago and it recently came back into my ethos. There are other artist who have posted the files, but with extremely restrictive usage rights.

I am 100% fine with people selling commercial rights for their work, as I intend to do. But if you are not selling usage rights, and are not selling the product itself, what is the point of putting restrictive usage rights?

These files took me 30 seconds to make in Fusion 360…….. 30 seconds. Why would I put any kind of rights on that? This is going PUBLIC DOMAIN. You may use and distribute this in any way you like. I hope it makes you money, I hope you do well, and discover and create. I am sending you love wherever you are, except for the artists who Anish Kapoor the place up. YUK!

The files included will help you print filament out in any two (or three) colors you want. I recommend sticking with highly pigmented plastics as the translucent stuff tends to bleed together. Silk and Matte filaments work well. (PRUSA USERS, JUST DOWNLOAD THE GCODE, THIS FILE TAKES 45 MINUTES TO SLICE)

I have been inspired to develop different processes by which anyone with a 3D printer can make gradient, bi-color and tri-color filaments.  That process includes custom shaped filament, custom processes for color blending, etc. None of that is included here, and will be included in my patreon in the future.

*** Considerations ***

  • Do not use adhesive - it will be a bad time when you try to print it.
  • The file tends to be pretty rough on a computer. Maybe my computer is bad, but just be ready for it to take a while!
  • Please post your results so we can maybe create a library as a community?
