A pen cup for your desk in the form of a mini spool of filament :) It also has some spots around the spool for holding USB type A sticks, or anything of that size.
It's not super deep, but that's intentional. For one, I put many small things in my old pen cup that I wanted to be able to fish out of this one when I designed it. For two, more importantly, it didn't look like a familiar filament spool when it was so tall. So it's a little short, but it's super easy to put other items in and get them out.
Printed in 3 parts, and the tolerances should be tight. It may take a minute to put the top and bottom into the filament center. The tight tolerance was intentional to keep the parts together with a friction fit.
I'd recommend 20-30% or greater infill for the top/bottom. The one in the photos was 10% infill with CF/PETG for the spool holder, and it still feels a little flimsy. Though I don't expect it to break, just could be stronger.
The filament center can be 10% infill.
No supports or anything, but make sure to have your retraction tuned for all the geometry on the top/bottom!
I realized it can be hard to tell from the photos the dimensions on the desk:
I made this purely for fun to practice some 3D modeling and dust off that skillset with the current pen cup contest :) Any feedback is appreciated!
Happy printing!
