Laptop Sun-Shade

These parts will enable you to build a sun-shield for your laptop, so you can work in the sun, without glare on your screen.

It is specifically designed for use with5mm thick foam board and laptops with5mm thick screens, like my Lenovo ThinkPad T480.

Assembly

Printed Parts

I suggest to print both the laptop-board-edge and the board-board-edge upright, for greatest strength.

• 6xlaptop-board-edge to connect the foam poard pieces to the laptop screen
• 2xboard-board-corner to connect foam board pieces together
• optionally, 2xboard-board-edge for added stability between foam board pieces

Foam Board

You can source foam board cheaply from various online shops as well as your local hobby or craft store. Make sure to use5mm foam board for this. Also, I suggest using black colored boards, to eliminate reflections.

To cut pieces to size, I suggest using your laptop screen as a template to draw out the size of the pieces on the board with a pencil, then use a utility knife and a hard edge to make the cuts.

  • X: matching your laptop's screen height (use laptop as a template to trace the width)

Connecting the Pieces

Use the 3D-printed pieces to clip the foam-board together and mount all the pieces to your laptop screen. Make sure to use the ribbed profile clips for the foam board and the flat profile clips for your laptop screen
