This part was initially designed for my ‘PluGuard Extensible Collection’ and can of course be used for other purposes, to measure a gap / space between 2 parts

Simply slide the gauge between 2 objects, like on the animation, between your objects, here the desktop and the USB cable until you feel a resistance, and then read the measure on the increment that felt (almost) no resistance (in 10th of mm), i.e. 46 = 4,6mm

The increment is 0.4mm so that you can print it in 0.2mm resolution and have a fair degree of accuracy.

The scale goes from 1.6 to 10 mm to accommodate small gaps between objects; I’ve also split it in 2 shorter models, for thinner and thicker gaps in case the full-length model is too long

3D printing settings

  • Printing technology : FDM is fine, but you can get more accuracy with SLA
  • Resolution: 0.2mm is ideal and worked fine as the gauge has an increment of 0.4mm, but if you want higher resolution you may of course try
  • Material :     I used PLA which works fine but you may try other material
  • Support :      Not needed
  • Printing time : On my Prusa MK3 – 50min at 0.20mm for the full length GapGauge
