I took this flatcar design Southern Pacific CS-35 36 foot flat car by bowdidge - Thingiverse
and tweaked the living hell out of it. Rather than gluing wood on top I opted to mix in the planks and do a color change, which turned out really nice I think. The only post-process I've done so far is to freshen the lines between the planks with an X-Acto slightly on one end and run some light sandpaper back and forth to kill the build plate shine and give the wood a little more wood character.
I mixed on my own standard coupler box design for Kadee whisker couplers (with a modified cover for this particular body) and bolted on some of my printed bogies for a fully printed piece of rolling stock (except wheelsets and couplers of course).
Printed this with a 0.25 nozzle and 0.15 resolution to pick up all of the detail the original design had in it. At that nozzle/resolution you even get the rivets, which is pretty amazing. Print time is right about 4 hours at those settings.
Still working on the painting of my excavator, so don't look at that, look at the damn flatcar! ;-)
