An example of 3D model generated with my Gugulele OnShape script…

  • Decorative headless gourd shaped design
  • Soprano ukulele scale length
  • Double rectangular through-body spine
  • Single oval off center sound hole
  • "+|-|+" Bracing
  • Tail-end placement of Planetary tuners
  • 5 pieces, to be glued and held together using M2 or M1.6 screws

I designed this so that friends with "normal" size desktop printer like Makerbot 5th gen that can print about 250mmx200mmx100mm have a shot at trying the project. I have yet to print this particular model so let me know if you have succeeded in printing one.

Third Party Parts:

  • 2x Spine/rods e.g. https://dragonplate.com/dragonplate-carbon-strip-rectangle-125-x-325-x-24
    • get a 24" long and cut it down to size, can't remember exactly...
    • if you don't use a rod, the neck will bow under string tension
  • Gotoh UPT-UBB-B Tuners e.g. http://www.theukulelesite.com/gotoh-upt-tuner-upgrade.html
    • its possible to use cheaper friction tuners, but need to play with shims and washers like this user http://www.thingiverse.com/make:325819, he uses https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HFQ88Y
  • 9x Long Screws (M2 or M1.6x10) for fretboard long holes e.g. https://www.amazon.com/M1-6x10mm-Stainless-Socket-Screws-100pcs/dp/B011BNUXNI, just buy a bag of 100
  • 6x Short Screws (M2 or M1.6x4) for short body holes and first fret e.g. https://www.amazon.com/M1-6x4mm-0-35mm-Pitch-Socket-100pcs/dp/B00XP4ZWY2/ just buy a bag of 100
  • You still need to Glue the parts together! The screws are there to provide alignment and help hold parts together while waiting for the glue to cure...
