What is this?

This is my approach of designing SpaceXs Mechazilla Launch Tower. It is designed to work with AstroGuy's Starship. Ive also used his LauchPad. And a piece of the super heavy for the GSE Tank :D.

How to Print?

  • Some Parts are need to be printed multiple times. If so, the file name includes the amount. ("filename_x12.stl" would need to be printed 12 times)
  • This Print requires well tuned retractions.

How to Assemble?

  • The Tower sections can easily be stacked due to alligning pins and then glued together.
  • You can slide some 30mm square profile (Aluminium Extrusion, Square Tube)  down the middle of the tower segments to make sure they are perfectly straight.
  • The order you need to stack the Segments is: 11x tower_segment, 3x tower_sqd_section, 7x tower_segment, 1x tower_last (from bottom to top)
  • The top segment uses two U604zz bearings as pulleys and 2 M4x14 screws and Nuts as fasteners.
  • Each carriage_claw needs 3 bushings. They are glued in place.
  • To finish the Carriage the two Claws are glued and screwed to the Middle Part.
  • For each Chopstick you need to glue the Top and Bottom parts together. Then you insert two small pieces of filament (shown green in the pictures). The Chopstick can then be pushed on the filament and glued in place.
  • The Chopsticks get screwed to the carriage with two M3X12 screws (longer is possible)

What is still to come?

  • Ship Quick-Disconnect arm extension with working claw!
  • Counterweights for the tower base. (With a motor to move the chopsticks [WIP])
  • New GSE Base with additional tanks and plumbing.

Update 21.05.2022:

  • Added a Remixed version of AstroGuy's LaunchPad Base.
    • You need to print launch-pad_base_v2.stl, tower_base_v2.stl and staging_area.stl
  • Added a Remixed version of AstroGuy's Ship and Booster Transport Stands.
    • I split the stands up for better printability. Each stand consists of the stand_top part that gets glued on the stand_mid part. Then the stand_leg parts get glued in. It is shown in one of the renders.

Update 03.08.2022:

  • Added files for QD Arm. Print orientation and example gcode in files.
    • You may need some support and a brim
    • Assembly requires superglue and short peices of 1.75mm Filament

Update 15.09.2022:

  • Added QD Arm Claw Files
    • Assemlble it like shown in the animation.
    • The hinges are made of short pieces of 1.75mm Filament
    • You need a lighter or something similar to melt the ends of the Hinge-Filamnet so it wont fall out.

Btw I have included the Fusion360 File. Feel free to modify it. But please Tag me when you publish it.
