Want to add some extra excitement to your board games? Well, here you go: a Dice Tower with a spring loaded Trapdoor!

This is a very simple print, and all you need is a printer, a 4mm(ish) pen spring, and a 20-25mm M3 bolt.

  • The bolt is the usual size what is used on the Prusa printers.
  • The spring size is not that important as the model has a lot of leeway on the fit. I would not advice to use a spring from a car as that might not fit, but most springs from normal pens will work.

I’ve added two outer shell designs: Jail Tower and Holey.

  • Jail Tower is a longer print in finer detail (0.15mm recommended) but it looks awesome!
  • Holey is simpler design and doesn’t take that long to print.

The inner slide is the same for both of these designs!

Edit 1: A secondary version of the slide with a larger landing tray has been added.

Edit 2: A third version of the slide without any tray has been added.

Edit 3: A ”Mini” version of the slide with a larger landing tray has been added. This version can be printed with Prusa Mini.

All the .stl files are already on the correct orientation for the bed. You can also just use the gcode files which I have used to print the example towers myself. Download and print, it is as simple as that.

No supports needed!

How to assemble?

Look at the example pictures first. The assembly is very simple and only takes a minute.

  1. Assemble the trapdoor first. (xxx_TrapdoorHandle & xxx_TrapdoorPlate) I’d advice to use a little bit of superglue so those doesn’t come apart.
  2. Add a drop of superglue to the hole on the handle and place the spring into it. The glue is there just to make it easier to get the spring in place later.
  3. Slot the top of the tower (xxx_Top) to the tower’s outer shell (xxx_OuterShell). The fit is pretty tight.
  4. Place the trapdoor in place. This is of course done from the inside of the outer shell. Aid the spring to it’s hole on the outer shell.
  5. Place the bolt to it’s hole and tighten it with the hex key through the small hole on the outer shell. The fit is not tight and does not require much force! The bolt is only there to act as a hinge. Tighten it until it’s gone all the way through and you feel a little bit of resistance.
  6. Slide the whole outer shell assembly over the slide and you are done.

Enjoy!
