The feet on some Thermo Fisher magnetic stirrer models are very short. As a result, liquids (especially salt-rich water) can cause corrosion and electrical safety issues when there are inevitable spills.

This object is a stand for the magnetic stirrers in our laboratory with four "pillars" designed so that the feet of the magnetic stirrers fit snugly inside, effectively raising the height of the stirrer by about 3 centimetres above the bench.

This model should be compatible with Thermo Fisher "Cimarec+ Stirrer Series" and "SuperNuova+ Stirrer Series", but please take your own measurements to be sure.

As people often move these stirrers around, it's also recommended to tie down the stirrer to the stand with zip ties. A hole is provided to do this as shown in the images.

There are two models to print depending on your printer type:

  • magnetic-stirrer-stand_one-piece.stl prints the object as a very large single piece, which may not fit onto your print bed if you have a small printer.
  • magnetic-stirrer-stand_two-piece_body.stl is designed for smaller print beds. You can print two of these, and then join them together by using a G-clamp to push the magnetic-stirrer-stand_two-piece_peg.stl peg/dowel object through the diamond-shaped holes on both sides (you need two pegs, see images). This model is not as structurally sound as the single solid piece but has still held up quite well in our personal experience.

Notes:

Use a higher infill percentage with at 2+ perimeter walls and 4+ solid layers on the bottom and top. Lab equipment is treated quite roughly so it needs to be rigid.
