I built an R4 type dome to mount on R5's body. I have heard lots over the years about kids twisting the Holo projectors and causing damage to the wires that connect up the LED's.

There are more sophisticated designs, but I drew this one up to see if the idea would work.

The single large LED is held in place in the cup of the holder.

Then a scooter bearing fits inside the expandable collar and is then push fitted over the stem of the LED holder and then it's contacts feed the wires through the inside. This creates a 'slip ring' effect. The bearing holder is then a push fit inside the rear of the Holo projector eye.

My design was a test/work in progress and some sanding and filing of the 3D printed Holo projector (not included here) and the shaft of the holder & the outer diameter of the bearing holder fins, also needed some finishing. But only so as to get a nice tight fit.

The holder is a tight push fit into the Holo, the inner diameter is free to rotate on the LED holder, so no twisting of the LED wires.

There's more info on my Blog and also on www.astromech.net

Yes

Infill:

solid

Filament: filament PLA

Notes:

This was a test project, and some work will possibly be required to finish off. The hole in the end of the LED holder (shaft end) is for the fitting of a screw so that this can be fitted to servo linkages to move the Holo projector.

Post-Printing =============

Components assembled, LED wired up.

The LED holder fitted through the bearing holder, which is push fitted inside the 3D printed Holo projector rear opening.
