This organizer is comprised of several trays to neatly store all the components from the Commands and Colors: Tricorne board game and The American Revolution the French and More expansion in the base game box.
The greatest challenge with this project was trying to maximize utility (quick setup, easily bring to the table) and minimize dead space. So, blocks should be stored in unit groupings so that you can quickly grab a whole unit and place it on a hex during setup and armies should be stored in whole groups (not mixing armies).
The first iteration of this project allowed the blocks to be placed upright like dominos in 4 or 5-block units. In order to keep everything level and stack the trays on top of each other, the small blocks would need to be raised up to the medium (cavalry) block height. However, in order to fit the extra expansion components in the box, I needed to buy an extra few millimeters of space by stacking the blocks on their faces. The picture shows how this works for the French army.
Once the unit trays were designed, the next challenge was fitting the cards, dice, and tokens into the box. The card tray is a little snug, but it is functional.
