Hi @Harrison_118518, I have had this model bookmarked for a long while now. I am interested in designing/prototyping a remix. Mine would be intended to fit inside a single spool dry box. Here is my old design for a single spool drybox for reference. https://www.printables.com/model/28932-spool-skate-for-rubbermaid-21-cup-drybox I am most interested in the rewinder you designed here. I think it is brilliant to use the springs from those badge retractors. I have several questions.

How reliable is it for you?
Does it work with cardboard spools?
Does it reliably work with full or near empty spools?
Has it ever pulled the filament too far and unloaded the MMU?

What issues do you see me running into with my idea to fit a similar rewinder into a single spool dry box?

@Mordiev Nice! Addressing your questions in order:

1 - Overall, fairly reliable. I still use it today and the only thing I'd change is the rubber coating/sheet on the drums. The stuff I'm using occasionally peels back and leaves a really sticky residue on the filament spool and is sometimes a little *too* grippy, making the filament spool jump around when the spring has been fully 'wound'.

2. Yep! Cardboard spools tend to grip a little too well to the rubber coating/layer I'm using on the drums though. Some experimentation of good drum 'liner' materials would be a good idea.

3. The more full the spool is, the better this setup works for re-winding the spool; often near-empty spools are too light to wind the spring. Though this doesn't bother me as these near-empty spools never cause issues for me if they don't re-wind properly; the filament tends to just loosely wrap itself around the spool hub without going out past the 'flanges' of the spool. YMMV though 🤔

4. Nope! I also thought this might be an issue, but it's never happened to me. I think that by the time the filament between the print head and the MMU has re-wound, the spring doesn't have much 'wind' left so it isn't pulling very hard.

5. The only issue I can think of (off the top of my head) is that the drum is quite a bit larger than the spool 'skate' that you linked to, so you might need a bigger tub.

If you go ahead with this, let me know how it goes! It's always cool to see my designs out 'in the wild' 😉

@JaroslavVAlou_134718 ahh I understand you now! Great idea to combine these two prints and I'm glad it's working well for you 🙂

@Harrison_118518 Yes, I forgot to say thank you, for the model, for the preparation and debugging. Thanks
