Print-in-Place Fidget Buttons

To Print:

• 0.2mm layer height
• 0.4mm nozzle width
• Needs strong bed adhesion
• No supports
• Bridging: Remember to turn down the flow for your bridges. Some of the bridges here are going to be visible, so turn on your best settings. (For instance, I had my filament set to 95% flow, and bridges set to 90%.)
• Removing from bed: It's best to pop each of the two interlocked pieces off the bed separately. For the central piece, you might try small tweezers in the button holes.

Sewing:

• This will work better on smoother fabric with a finer weave.
• Make sure you sew it on securely, as there will inevitably be some stress on those stitches from playing with the button.

There are three variations as of this moment: a flower, a triangle, and a gear. I have also included a version with the shapes removed (just the center and the ring running around it) if you want to customize your own fidget button shape.

Notes:

• The hardest part of this design was printing it face down but still keeping four button holes and the top recess area for the thread, which the holes need to open into. There is a bit of careful, finicky layered-bridges work in the middle so it works but doesn't ooze down unattractively. (Originally I tried to run a cone-shaped hollow up intersecting with the holes; this turned out to be one of those shapes where the print movement builds up just enough rocking momentum to pop the tiny piece off the bed mid-print.)
• The surface looks neater when printed face down, but that orientation is also necessary so that the moving piece can be shorter than the center piece and offset away from where the button will press against the fabric.
