I recently had a static shock from my finger to the Qidi toolhead and my printer has been down for several months. Qidi has been working with me to replace parts, but it's pretty much one part at a time and a slow process. So because of that I haven't been able to test print any of my mods. but I've been sitting on them and so I figure it's time to post them and see if the community can make any improvements.

I don't have stl files at the moment, since I'm working on these remotely.

For the riser that has been remixed:

  • split the parts more so it is printer friendly and printable without supports.
  • integrated a recirculating exhaust that holds carbon pellets and a hepa filter this eliminates the need for filters in Qidi's stock filer housing, but it still needs to be left open, as this is where the air comes from for this filter.
  • the output of the recirculating can also house two 4020 blower fans as an option, to improve airflow, I haven't tested so don't know if it's even needed or not.

As part of this, I remade the back plate of the machine to be double-walled so that it can be insulated. some of things on this back plate remake are for personal reason, so they may not be useful to you

  • This backplate is meant to work with the recirculating vent and riser that is here, hence the huge cutout for the recirculating carbon pellet exhaust.
  • There are two holes just below the steppers which are intended for routing water cooling blocks to be just under the stepper motors in the rear of the machine.
  • it is designed to work with 20mm thick insulation (or ¾")
  • the upper half of the machine is meant to have insulation directly on to the new inner back plate.
  • the lower half of the machine, there is a ledge where insulation is meant to be horizontal, effectively separating the heated chamber from the mainboard.
  • In the lower half of the machine, insulation is placed directly onto the rear wall of the machine, which will run up to the horizontal insulation from earlier.
  • use 12- 15 NYLON standoff screws to hold to board and the ssr, away from the insulation,
  • the SSR will need to be moved to the lower part of the chamber as well, mine is a bit different so I can't make that model. so if you make one, please share.

There is also a double hinged door seal in the file, but since I can't print it, I can't test it, and I noticed, if you split the model in the slicer software, because it has folding parts, the slicer splits it into too many pieces. I think when I converted it to step it also did that. but if you can figure it and print and test it, please share.

  • please note, it is a double(or triple? with the middle hinge reversed) hinge mechanism, so it mounts directly to the glass on the top bottom and right side, and directly to the machine on the left.
  • that means, the hinged parts need to float and not be attached to the machine or the glass.
  • I designed the model to be 3d print friendly, so when it prints, you fold certain parts and glue certain parts. but some parts are not meant to be glued because they need to float, and they will close with the door.

There is also a model for a monitor housing, that moves it out of the way of the door seal, and allows the monitor to tilt.

  • This version of that mod requires removing the OEM screen from the plastic housing.
  • BE VERY CAREFUL the screen is fragile and can crack, then you'll need to buy a new one. I recommend heating up the glue a bit so it is easier to remove. and pushing it out from the back. DO NOT try to pry out the screen.
  • Use 30 or 35mm m3 bolts to screw in the hinges, one on each side

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Let's of changes:

  • split the parts more so it is printer friendly and printable without supports.
  • integrated a recirculating exhaust that holds carbon pellets and a hepa filter
  • the output of the recirculating can also house two 4020 blower fans as an option, to improve airflow, I haven't tested so don't know if it's even needed or not.

As part of this I remade the back plate of the machine to be doublewalled so that it can be insulated.
