Spinning Heart – A Simple, Fun 3D Print Inspired by Music

I got this idea for a spinning heart while listening to Dead or Alive’s 2003 hit song, "You Spin Me Round." The beat, the energy—it just felt like movement, like love set in motion. That’s when the vision hit me: a heart that literally spins.

This design is as simple as it gets—perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a quick, heartfelt gift. It consists of just two parts:
• A heart with a 3D spin effect, created by rotating a heart outline around its center axis. This forms a smooth, symmetrical shape that maintains the heart’s contour while giving it a rounded, sculptural look.
• A separate shaft designed for putting the smooth spinning in motion

By keeping the shapes separate, this model can be printed without any supports, making it easy to print at any size. This shaft is half-cylindrical and half-square. The square end fits completely into the square hole in the heart, creating a mechanical connection that can withstand torsional forces without slipping and requires no adhesive to prevent slippage. I recommend scaling the shaft about 10% smaller than the heart for a better fit.

Printing Tips:

• Print the heart upside down (with the point facing up).
• Lay the shaft horizontally to maximize strength.
• Use at least 10% infill on heart if printing without supports to ensure the top prints smoothly.
• Print the shaft at 100% infill for added durability.
• Print the shaft at 10% less scale for quicker assembly

I made a small mistake—I forgot to lower the print temperature from my last job, which caused gaps at the heart top. A little plastic wood filler helped smooth things out, but ideally, a proper temp adjustment would prevent that. Also, while the heart spun perfectly at first, my quick filler job threw off the balance, adding some wobble

Done right, the top of the heart should resemble a spinning record—a subtle tribute to the song that inspired it. Pair this with "You Spin Me Round" playing in the background, and you’ve got a simple yet meaningful gift that’s sure to bring a smile.
Hope you enjoy it! 🎶💖
