As a fan of LEGO and similar brick sets and models, I really like the various ship models manufactured by Cobi. As my space is limited, though, I wanted to build a wall mount to display one or more ships easily. Here we go.

Model Versions

The wall mount comes in two versions for the larger and smaller ship models, as well as with or without a mounting option for the white name plates that come with each model.

  • Large Ship Models
    • This version is compatible with all ships that come with the large stand – like the large Titanic, Bismarck, HMS Warspite, Hood or Tirpitz.

  • Small Ship Models
    • This version is compatible with all smaller models that get mounted on a base with two 2 x 2 plates – like the Prinz Eugen or HMS Belfast.

The studs to mount the ship are identical to the included brick-built bases of each model. The name plate can be attached to some studs, too.

Mounting to the Wall

Depending on your wall, you may use two matching screws and dowels, if required. The pictures include a drawing with the relevant measurements.

Then, adjust the screw's length over the surface until the mount sits nice and tight and does not wiggle too much. I tested it with all displayed models and did not notice any stability issues.

Printing Recommendations

I achieved good results with the following print settings and attached one example gcode file with these settings for the large ship version with name plate mounting option.

  • 3 Perimeters
  • General infill density of 20 - 25 percent
  • Infill modifiers around the screw holes to increase the density to 50 - 60 percent
  • Prints without supports

Ships not included ;)
