A tape dispenser like all the others, except this one works! (Bold claim, but based on long-term testing)

It works because:

  • Incorporates a shelf that the tape sticks to before it separates, ensuring the tape stays stretched out to be easily picked the next time.
  • Uses a metal insert (a piece of a hacksaw blade or utility knife blade).
  • Is solidly clamped to your table (dispensers are never heavy enough to really stay put).

Notes:

The measurements needed to accommodate the model for another type of tape are shown in the pictures.

To edit the model for a reasonably similar tape type and desk thickness, edit the sketches/dimensions marked in red.

Use a piece of a hacksaw blade (preferable, as it has teeth) or a piece of a utility knife blade as a metal insert. Force the insert into the slot and set it so the cutting edge is BELOW the shelf top (to ensure the tape sticks well to the shelf and then separates reliably in one motion of your hand).

When adjusting for desk thickness, set a reasonable preload (approx. 4 mm tested).

To further improve the dispenser's stability, pieces of rubber can be glued to the contact points (not necessary, but if used, a smaller preload of the desk clamp can be set).

In the current configuration, the model is set up and exported for a 23 mm desk with rubber pads applied.

Tested with PETG; PLA is not preferred since it creeps easily.
