Lego Monorail Motor using a N20 Motor

Lego monorail motors cost upwards of 50$, so I decided to design my own monorail motor using a abundant 12V N20 Motor

Lego Monorail has recently gotten a bit of a comeback with many vendors that sell printed track pieces and many track designs are available to download and print yourself. There is however a lack of new monorail motors, so I decided to solve this problem myself.

I have made two versions, one with a cable going out on the side of the motor and one with the original 9v connector. The version with the 9v connector 8 pins from a 2.54mm pin header and a small piece of cut up perfboard. I recommend soldering the connector outside of the housing/motor.

These are the parts you need for both versions:

Printed parts:
2x Monorail Motor coupling_2x
1x Monorail Motor cover
1x Monorail Motor main body
4x Monorail Motor wheel_4x

Other parts:
1x 12V N20 motor 1200 - 1500 rpm (1200 is a bit slower than original, 1500 is a bit faster)

1x 12t 0.5M 3mm d gear

2x 25x2mm Steel axle

2x M3xL4xOD5 Heat Set Inserts (Voron Standart) (only needed for the cover)

2x M3x8 Bolt (only needed for the cover)

The two heat set inserts are inserted here:

The last picture shows how I made a lego 9v connector for the monorail motor out of a 2x2 tile and copper tape.

Also check out my other monorail motor, which is a adapter for current Lego motors to act as monorail motors.

For track pieces check out 4DBrix, they sell printed track pieces but also let you just download the stl files.

For supports,  I also have released a model for that.
