PDF

Having a disabled brother inspired me to design a device that allows anyone to hold a controller without using their hands. This device allows you to strap the controller to your leg and interact with the controller the best way you can. This means anyone with a disability or impairment can use the controller in a non-intended way - without the strain of holding the controller or keeping it in place without slipping.

The main feature of this design is the interchangeable controller bracket, I have included two basic designs for a standard grip (first photo) and also an extended grip (fourth photo) to change where the controller is positioned relative to the user. Full customization was a priority when designing this as it allows greater use and increased ergonomics. The modularity also allows for this design to be printed without supports!

As well as this, the open design of the mount allows for other great designs like joystick extensions, D-Pad joysticks, or trigger extensions for one-handed gamers; to be mounted to the controller. You are also able to charge the controller without removing the controller from the bracket.

Assembly and Hardware

To assemble you need to use:

  • 2 x M3 Nuts
  • 2 x M3x10mm Bolts

These are used to attach the grip to the base and will require a small screwdriver or allen key to tighten.

To attach to your leg you can use either a velcro strap like I have or even a simple ribbon tied up will work well too.

Improvements

I feel my design is well thought out, however, I also have more improvements and iterations I want to apply in the future. These include:

  • More grip varients
  • Extra strong grip mechanism
  • Variety of base sizes for different body shapes
  • Non-strap on version
  • Fully 3D printed version with no hardware

These iterations should be complete soon!

Other Notes

If you have any requests for grips or other ideas for me to add please please please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

I have included the fusion 360 files for people to design their own grips - as well as the Prusa slicer file for people to see how I sliced it. I have added a modifier to make the strap handles stronger with 3 perimeters instead of 2.

I love seeing how people use my designs so please post your makes!

Happy Printing!
