I printed up OneIdMONstr's amazing flexi-facehugger, and was indeed amazed - it is a superb model. But it was a bit too floppy to be entirely intimidating. So, time for a little bit of a mechanical remix...!
I scaled the model up, smoothed it out a touch, and then sliced it up to add ball and socket joints at the end of the fingers and tail. I have the actual ball joints themselves printed separately and then slotted into holes in the body.
This is mainly a practical choice, my printer struggles printing round ball joints unless they are vertically oriented. And it means that if the fingers are a bit too tight or too loose when you clip them on, you can try adjusting the extruder flow rate in your slicer, and just reprint the joint parts. But this also allows the joints to be printed in a different colour, which adds an extra level of arthropodal unpleasantness to the finished model. Win-win, really.
Adding these few ball joints lends a surprising degree of posing ability to this already nastily arachnoid beastie. It looks quite horrid on my desk. Great work original work, OneIdMONstr!
