CASE Details:

  • Space for 4x2 gridfinity boxes, 6 units height.
  • There are 2 lids with separate locking mechanism for each one.
  • The lids have the matching gridfinity lip to be sure parts are not getting out if you all the height.
  • Strong build with sturdy print in place hinge. No hardware needed for the hinge.
  • The case has a two part lid and each one can be opened separately.
  • Magnetic lock mechanism on each lid. No springs needed, only magnets. Please check the gif animation and or images for details.
  • All you need to build this are 8 magnets of 6x2mm (4 are mandatory and 4 optional) and some glue.
  • The case has included brim for the corners (mouse ears - to better prevent corner lifting)
  • There are 2 case designs (one with gear logo and a blank one)

You can use any gridfinity generator to create whatever container you want for this storage box, or use one of the many already existing ones.

The cases presented into the photo's are printed with these settings:

  • 0.2mm layer height
  • 3 walls
  • 20% infill (adaptive cubic)
  • I used 5 bottom layers for the top case part, at least for the version with gear logo.
  • The pins are better printed with 2 walls and high infill, with the orientation like in the bellow picture.

The screw, is optional and if you want to use it, it goes on top of the case and is used to be able to stack the case one over the other and also as an ornament. Of course, you need to print 4 screws.

For assembly, you need to pay attention to the magnets orientation, please don't rush and follow the images for assembly.
For the lock mechanism, the magnets should reject each other.
Everything should fit easily.

Locking mechanism should work easily (there are tolerances build in) but if it's not easily locking automatically, please move manually the pin in both directions for some time, to smooth it out.

These are some detailed steps how to fit together the locking mechanism. (it's from my previous case, but the steps are the same)
