This is the next iteration of a 3d printable chisel router plane. The original was not great (Chisel Router Plane 1/2-inch (12mm) by JohnMartin | Download free STL model | Printables.com) but it worked okay. I had to resolve some strength issues and also cut down on the massive amount of material required to print it. That's where this more compact, and far better functioning version comes in.

Print instructions:

Make sure to print the lever cap with 100% infill or enough perimeters to make it solid. You shouldn't need supports. I printed this with ASA and no cooling without issue. Also, print in the orientation shown in the picture.

Here's what changed

  • Way smaller. The original version was just a huge waste of filament.
  • Smaller bolt for strike button to retract the blade
  • Ditched the wedge in favor of this pivoting lever-cap style. It holds the chisel in place very well.
  • Added the vertical screws to prevent the body from splitting at the layer lines.
  • Adjusted the angle up to prevent too much backward force on the chisel that caused it not to stay in place.

What you'll need.

  • ½ Inch (12mm) Chisel
  • 1 ¼ inch (35mm) long ¼ inch (6mm) brass or steel rod.
  • 3.5mm hex key (if you have a 3d printer you probably have one) to put in the body support screws in.
  •  ¼-20 bolt for the rear strike button.

I left the slot for the pin super sloppy. My thought was that I would make different shaped bases and just easily move the lever cap from base to base. It should stay put if you have a chisel in there.
