My friend is renting out her flat and wants to leave some stuff in her loft - this ‘lock’ is screwed into the ceiling and stops the hatch being slid to the side so it can't drop down. To access the loft you have to unscrew the lock from the ceiling - it is designed to stop casual access to the loft. To make it more secure you could use unusual security screws such as button head.
