An experimental cooling fan stand for the Asus RT-AC88u router. It's quite a large print, so you will need a printer bed that can handle just under 280mm in print length by roughly 162mm (I've used a Folgertech FT-5 with 300 x 300 bed).. For smaller build size printers I may have to come up with a way to split the print and have snap together pieces somehow - possibly a future revision.

I've designed the stand around a Fractal Design 140mm R2 PC case fan which I had spare, which is held in place firmly without need for any fasteners. Also tested with another broken corsair 140mm brushless fan I had, but needed to be a bit more forceful to fit this one - it sort of fit/was workable but would pop out a little - so your mileage may vary depending on fan choice and your printers scaling accuracy.

I've used a cheap USB to Fan adapter from a chinese ebay seller, using the routers USB to power the fan. The cable hole in the stand is big enough for the fan adapter through but not the usb plug. You may also need to unhook the fan cable from the corner clip on the fan and reroute it to the hole correctly to help the fan fit flush on the stand.

I keep this router in a semi enclosed cupboard, so in testing with Merlin my CPU temp went from roughly 74ºc to 63ºc with an ambient temperature of around 20ºc. Assuming better temps could be achieved by running a stronger dedicated 12v power supply rather than running off the USB?

Rushed this print at ~120mm/s and 5% fast hex infill in PLA (no part cooling fan on my FT5 yet either!) - roughly 2 hours print time - so turned out a little messy, but it does the job. Would probably do 10-15% infill if I were to print again.

Anyway, comment, let me know how you go - I can't guarantee this will work for your particular 3d printers scaling or exact model of 140mm fan as they all differ slightly - so with a bigger print like this it's going to be a bit of a leap of faith - but good luck!
