I wanted to build a very simple, minimal, and cleanly designed bird feeder, so I had an idea, drew it first, and then designed it in Fusion.

I wanted it to be a bit selective, big enough for the smaller songbirds, but to keep the pigeons, crows and other larger birds out. The current design has 120 mm of free height on the entrance, which should be a good compromise for this. It also includes a little roof and holes on the bottom to keep the seed dry.

I has simple feet than you can either glue on something or design your own fixing elements for. An example holder for a 65 mm square bar is included, but you can brew your own based on the Fusion/STEP source included.

Printing:

To build the feeder, print both flat parts with the flat side down and the curved part on it's side. You don't need any supports. I wanted a more natural look, so I printed it using wood PLA, but I guess the birds won't mind the colour either way.

If you wanted a wider feeder, simply scale the curved part in the Z axis to your liking.

Assembly:

  1. Place one of the flat parts on the table with the flat surface downward.
  2. Apply glue (anything that will work with the material you used) to the groove.
  3. Place the curved part in the groove.
  4. Place the other flat part on the table and glue the groove.
  5. Place the newly glued part on top of the curved part.
  6. Put a book on top to weigh it down and wait until the glue cures.

Enjoy your little visitors :)
