PDF

A hand tool to facilitate inserting magnets into Gridfinity stuff.

Insert the magnet into the bottom of the handle, use pliers (or anything pointy) to push the magnet all the way in the back.

I've included two handles with “BASE” and “BIN” embossed onto the handle, you should print both and insert magnets with a different polarity facing down for each one (ie. one magnet into the “BASE” handle with the positive side facing down, and one magnet in the “BIN” handle with the negative side facing down, or the other way around, you get the idea..)
There's also a plain version available, so that you can add you own text.

Tolerance it pretty tight but I've had no issue insert my cheapo Amazon magnets.
If it's too tight for you, you can edit the Fusion 360 file and adjust the friction_factor parameter:

The provided STLs are using a 0.2 mm factor.

You are welcome to also edit the other dimensions, the file is fairly well constrained I think so you should not have too many issues.

Printing

The model has a flat side, which should be facing the build plate when printing.

  • No supports
  • 0.4 nozzle at 0.2 layer height (I used variable layer height within PrusaSlicer)
  • PLA for stiffness
  • Bump the perimeters (I used 4 instead of 2)
    • Helps with keeping the bottom part from breaking when applying force

Updates

2023-09-28 v2

Bigger handle, the first one was a bit too narrow and dug into the palm, v2 also has a shorter stem for added stiffness.
