Alternative, PTFE based, sensor mod is available here:
https://www.printables.com/model/488517-mak-sovol-sv06-run-out-sensor-mod-ptfe
In my tests the above mod works even better than this one. But please feel free to try both for yourself.
Genuine Sovol filament sensor is causing lots of friction. Actually so much that in some cases the print quality is seriously affected (printed layers are not consistent). This happens due to faulty design of the sensor itself and also wrong positioning on a SV06 frame, relative to filament spool width:
Both issues are causing an additional, not necessary friction.
This modification is addressing the first issue.
The mod has much less friction, as it internally follows "natural" curved shape of the filament just unwind from a spool. I have no way to measure it objectively, but finger feel difference is HUGE.
On the attached pictures the mod is orange, the genuine Sovol sensor is black – check how different the filament is set inside of both sensors.
Printing is straight forward, with no supports needed (when properly rotated on the bed).
Disassembly of the genuine Sovol sensor is simple and reversible. Just unscrew two bolts from the metal plate and take the genuine case and the cover apart (they are not glued, just stick tightly together, shown on one of the attached pictures). Then take the electronics out, put it in the modded casing and mount everything back in place.
That is all, ENJOY! :-)
A lot of work goes into every 3D model I publish for free download. If you would like to appreciate my efforts just buy me a coffee using the below link. Thanks!
