Summary

This model provides a base for squash-ball feet for use within the prusa-box enclosure. It supports the feet at the same height as the standard squash-ball base, but allows them to be offset by 30mm from the main crossbeam channel. This allows mounting the printer feet at the rear of the frame, which is necessary when using some models of PSU brace if you want to keep the feet on the outside of the frame.

The model includes an internal spring mechanism to secure it to the crossbeam, but if you want a more secure attachment, you can install an M4 nut and screw (at least 8mm long) to put clamping pressure on the crossbeam. You can use either a set screw or standard screw for this purpose.

When mounting the squash ball feet at the rear of the frame, this base allows sliding the printer as far back as possible in the box without colliding with the PSU. Note that at this distance, the stock heatbed cover will collide with the rear of the box, so an angled heatbed cable mod is recommended.

Background

After installing Yosuke's PSU replacement brace and squash ball feet (both highly recommended) on the outside of the frame, I found that the printer sat too far forward in my prusa-box enclosure. Rather than switch the affected feet to the inside of the frame like a normal person, I decided to make this thing.

Models

Two versions of the model are available. The standard model includes a disjoint support structure for the floating base region (this part of the model is elevated to account for the thickness of the steel crossbeam). It can be printed as-is. The “nosupport” version omits this structure, for those who want to generate or add their own supports.
