Easy 3D Printable CNC Drawing Machine - Draw on Cakes, Phones, Paper, Shirts | Arduino GRBL Plotter
This is a very fun project to do and really practical introduction to CNC machines and G-code. I have a GIF of it in action.
Since it used so many (in my case) one off components, I remixed it very heavily so it essentially used only parts off a old 3D printer I found on FB marketplace. Instead of linear rails and rods, it uses 2020/2040 extrusions and V-wheel rollers with a leadscrew for the X-axis; I also re-used the steppers, limit switches, belts, gears, stepper drivers, wiring, etc. Since I only had to add in the Arduino (had on hand) and CNC shield, the entire project was pretty cheap (and I can re-use some of the parts later on for a Rook build). Maybe not the most elegant especially with the cantilevered Y-axis but it works.
The rest of the project, including the software I used straight came from the tutorial pt 2 video. I had to download an older version of inkscape because there were some compatibility issues with newer versions and the inkscape GRBL Mi plugin, but once that was sorted I had fun trying all sorts of things. Next step is to try using this in Fusion 360! (edited)
