Update November 2024NEW 10xx version:I added an elongated version of my GarYon v4 design to match larger bike computers. Durability experience:Until today I rode about 3500 km with the reinforced original design without any integrity issues again (no breakage, no ruptures). So part design seems to be validated from my side :-) |
Update April 2024 I added a reinforced version of my original design. The updated part has internal channels for higher strength. With the original design I had a failure during one of my rides. Not sure if it was the design or a printing defect. However, with the reinforced design I had no issues at all during my last rides. Enjoy! |
Like a lot of riders outside, I own a Garmin Edge (Series 8) that I use during my activities. In addition to that I found a handy front light that can be stacked below the Edge itself. With the original mounts from Canyon or several other competitors I had the issue that the inclination of the mount was way too high. Resulting in the situation that the front light was kind of useless, firing into the sky. Also, I was not really happy with the readability of the cycling computer. And last but not least…for me, the designs did somehow not match to the one of my bike with its straight horizontal lines.
So, let's design an own bracket, matching all my requirements. Due to the fact that I had already one bracket from Canyon available which had a screwable Garmin specific connection interface I took the decision to stick to this concept. I know that in relation to weight some riders may complain about some extra grams due to this design, but for me this is totally fine. I also checked the big market places and such kind of inserts can be found from different shops. So you don't need to buy the original Canyon bracket just to have the interface in place. In addition in case of some kind of wear issues, simply replacing the insert is then an easy one. :-)
I designed the bracket to fit my Edge 840 without a huge gap to the handlebar. This design should also work for the 5-series but I assume no chance to fit a 10-series garmin. With a dedicated Wahoo insert the design might also fit some of those cycling computers - but tbh idk, this is just an assumption.
The first iteration of this project had some structural weaknesses so that's the reason why this baby is called v4. With the latest design I think those issues should be fixed :-) Let me know if you have other experience.
I printed the part in the following settings:
