The common wire shelving racks, such as those made by Trinity can benefit from having a plywood platform on top of each rack or shelf. This improves weight distribution, but it can be difficult to cut the corner just right. This jig creates a guide that can be used along with a flush trim router bit to create the proper angle and depth.

The two print files are:

  • Rolling Shelf Jig.3mf - the basic model for printing
  • Rolling Shelf Jig Reinforced.3mf - includes a cylindrical modifier over the clamp area for increased strength

While this jig can work for many different wire racks, I designed this specifically for the EcoStorage 5-Tier 48x24x72 shelving as manufactured by Trinity and sold by Costco. This rack in particular is great because it has a high weight capacity, has casters for easy movement, and the shelf dimensions divide evenly for a standard 4'x8' sheet of plywood.

For this shelf size (48"x24"), a full size 4'x8' sheet of plywood can be cut into four 2'x4' sections, then trimmed down with this jig to create a plywood surface enough for 4 of the 5 shelves. The following shows the cuts needed on a 4'x8' sheet of plywood to create four shelf platforms.

  • 12/30/2023, 7:21 PM - moved edge alignment guides away from the corner to prevent the router bit from cutting into the jig
