When you use a GAS engine in a RC Helicopter, the fuel tank is not pressurised but does need a vent to allow the fuel to flow. To help this happen a piece of tubing is added to the tank to vent it, however with Helicopters they are not always upright. So to stop the fuel just poring out when someone does a loop, this technique is used. A loop of tubing is used, thus allowing the tank to vent, but the loop stops the fuel from running out, as it needs to go uphill when the Heli is upside-down. This spool allows you to neatly wind the tubing around it thus keeping it from kinking or looking untidy. It is designed to be as light as possible, hence the strange look, enjoy.
