I made this Earth layer model to my daughters specifications for a school project. We found an earth model and remixed it to add layers and a stand. Each layer has a hole for adding a flag for naming the layer. The hole is sized for a piece of filament or toothpick.
I made the model into 2 pieces for easier printing, the Earth's crust and the Earth's layers. There are 3 printed pins that hold the layers to the crust and it can all be super glued together.
There are 2 versions of the Crust: one is solid, and the other is shelled then I added internal structure to cut down on the infill needed.
The stand has pads on the bottom of its feet that can be printed in TPU if you'd like. A .5 inch wooden dowel can be used for the rod and it should be a nice snug fit to the stand and earth.
The model is approx. 7 inches/ 180mm in diameter.
Sorry I forgot to get a picture of the final assembly.
The author remixed this model.
I took the original and split in half, added a stand, and added layers.
