I have just finished a quick-change prism for cameras with 1/4 inch thread and for use with a tripod and I am happy to make it available to the community.

The set consists of four parts:

  • a1: camera part
  • a2: threaded screw 6,35 mm (1/4")
  • b1: tripod part
  • b2: thread nut insert 6.35 mm (1/4")
  • c: Grip for the M4x16 screw

I think that PLA threads don't last forever - and before you have to reprint large parts just because a thread has become unusable, I prefer to keep the threaded parts separate as an insert - quasi as a replacement and spare part. Because they are re-printed in 10 minutes.

I have sliced the threaded parts massive (100% infill), the prism parts with 1.6 mm wall thickness and 30% gyroid filling. This seems to me to be sufficiently stable, in reality it is probably completely over-the-top. No matter. My Nikon (with a relatively "male" lens) does not wobble. Do not overdo the print when tightening the screws.

After tight comes off, right?

The slicer complains about one or the other part, that it is not "watertight". Simply forget this.
Just ignore it. It works.

What you still need is a M4x16 screw to secure the camera part against slipping out and a square nut M4 (flat form, DIN 562), which is pressed into the slot of the tripod part. The slot for this is quite narrow - so the nut does not need to be secured against falling out.

STLs available:

Kamera_Prisma_JFS_a1.stl (camera part)
Kamera_Prisma_JFS_a2.stl (threaded screw 6,35 mm (1/4"))
Kamera_Prisma_JFS_b1.stl (tripod part)
Kamera_Prisma_JFS_b2.stl (thread nut insert 6.35 mm (1/4"))
Kamera_Prisma_JFS_c (grip for the M4x16 screw)

Don't make me responsible if anything goes wrong or breaks and damages your camera. Use at own risk.
