This is a modular box for dice and more. Originally designed to be a just a dice box and tower in one, I've added a few more options, making it a modular system. Simply take the bottom, choose a top design you like and two inserts and get printing.
Printing:
The top and bottom can be printed as are, flat side down. Coloring only the very top of the box will mean as little as 4 filament changes, but you can also color the whole box.
The box inserts can likewise be printed as are.
The tower is a bit tricky, I've tried many designs and orientations, trying to find a design that wouldn't need supports, but they made for either bad dice rolling or bad printing. So supports are needed, with tree supports working very well.
Settings:
I've used a 0.4 nozzle together with the "strength" preset with 0.2 mm layer height, but a smaller layer height for less visible lines works fine too.
Ironing:
If you want a super smooth rolling surface, consider turning on ironing for the insides of the top and bottom.
Print plate:
I used a standard textured plate, but they should look really great on a smooth plate, or even using effect plates as well.
Important:
The whole thing holds together with just friction alone. Filled with dice, holding only the top, I needed some heavy shaking before it came apart. However I also added a space for embedded magnets (5×2 mm) for more security. That means pretty tight tolerances, so if you prefer bigger tolerances and want to relay only on magnets you might want to scale down the inserts just a tiny bit.
Post processing:
None needed other than removing the supports from the tower.
Personal note:
A lot of thoughts and effort were put into this project and even more time was spent testing and improving the design. Still this is my first big design, so I'm open for any constructive criticism or ideas for more inserts and top designs.
Hope you like my design!
